Thou canst not then be false to any man.”

Written in 2001 in English, based on a slim biography 'Le Pétomane' by Jean Nohain and Frank Caradec and given the same title as the book, the theatre play 'Le Petoman' by Tony Stowers (www.tonystowers.weebly.com) was touted to a few British theatres but never accepted. Starting off with 12 actors in late October 2022 and rehearsing weekly for two hours, it gradually took shape. It was put together in stages and finally connected near to the performance dates fixed for June 2023 and by then the cast had been whittled down to a skeleton 7. Stage props were of wood or metal and not plastic or nylon in keeping with the aesthetic of the period and the cast was onstage at all time to provide offstage sound effects so modern technology wouldn't be needed. The group was self-funding. Publicity was reliant on social media and generosity. Thanks to the CSC Grand B in St Herblain, where the admin of the producer Linlyralirec theatre group is based, for use of rehearsal rooms, a supportive staff and a magnificent theatre space. English subtling was done using Subtitle Edit and took 30 hours over six days with almost one thousand captions. Thanks to Antoine Fazio for the film.
